Mike Read is a professional photographer, writer, tour guide and lecturer living in the South of England UK.

Mike has stocks of over 80,000 transparencies and a rapidly increasing quantity of superb digital images available for various publishing projects. He also sells limited edition and other prints, greetings cards, books and calendars.

Browse the various categories of Mike’s web site and you will see his obvious commitment to quality imagery. His observational skills enable him to find and photograph many of the things that most of us would miss when walking in the countryside. He also has an instinctive ability to see the artistic potential within subjects and the resulting photographs are often stunning in their simplicity and beauty of composition, thus elevating them to works of art. This has led to Mike exhibiting in the ‘Art Marquee’ at the British Birdwatching Fair for a number of years. See him there in August this year.

Mike has co-authored a number of books. Photography for his first titles, ‘The Robin’ and ‘The Barn Owl’, provided a huge challenge in capturing the behaviour and beauty of these two lovely birds. His work must have been successful as both titles went to three print runs but are now sold out. Since then Mike has illustrated ‘The New Forest’ (in the Jarrold Short Walks series), ‘Discover the South Downs’ (written by Peter Brandon) as well as other titles. Mike’s most recent works are ‘New Forest Moods’, which has been highly acclaimed for its stunning atmospheric landscape photography, and ‘Red Kite Country’. This latter title successfully merges Mike’s words and photography with the beautiful paintings and sketches of wildlife artist Colin Woolf.

Mike Read also makes time to give illustrated talks and write about his love of the natural world and nature photography, drawing on his considerable experiences over the years and as a tour guide to various parts of the globe.
