colin_logoOne of the UK's leading wildlife artists,Colin exhibits regularly at events such as the CLA Game Fair and the Scottish Game Fair.  Working in watercolour, pencil and occasionally oils, he captures the essence of his subjects, and his images have a remarkable lifelike quality.  Colin is also known for his skill in painting woodcock with a woodcock's pin-feather.  Hallmarks of his work are richly coloured landscapes, atmospheric skies and soft plumage.

travnat_logo The Travelling Naturalist

is a small, specialist tour operator with a simple aim - to provide the most enjoyable guided wildlife holidays possible! We follow the best traditions of field natural history, leading small groups of like-minded people in some of the best areas for wildlife that we know, and taking time to appreciate the natural history there. We have been running wildlife holidays for a quarter of a century and are extremely proud of our client loyalty with, on average, about half the clients on any trip coming back to us and with many of our new clients coming by personal recommendation. Several clients have returned for over twenty holidays with us and a few have notched up over fourty trips!

We never forget that it is your holiday and work hard to ensure all the components of a tour - the accommodation, transport, food, the design and pace of the itenary, and the all-important leadership - combine to give you a superb all-round experience and, we hope, some wonderful memories!

bob_scott_webBob Scott was one of the giants of the British birding scene for many, many years.  He worked for the RSPB for 40  years and during that time was reserve warden at Dungeness and then Northward Hill in Kent.  After this he moved to join the Society's reserves department at The Lodge and soon became head of this department.  Sadly, Bob passed away on March 26th 2009.

In his memory, his wife Ann (who also worked for the RSPB) is trying to raise thousands of pounds to help our trans-Saharan migrants.  Habitat loss is a large contributary factor to their decline in Britain.  There is to be an on-line quiz launched on 26th March 2010 to raise funds for this important project.  To find out more about the Bob Scott Memorial Appeal, to consider joining this quiz (it will cost you £5 to enter but you could win a trip to sub Saharan Africa!) or to just donate to this appeal, follow the links within this text.

This really is a very worthwhile cause and without urgent action, our summer visitors will continue to decline.  Please give generously or even organise a fund-raising event to contribute to this vital work.
