travnat_logo The Travelling Naturalist is a small, specialist tour operator with a simple aim - to provide the most enjoyable guided wildlife holidays possible! We follow the best traditions of field natural history, leading small groups of like-minded people in some of the best areas for wildlife that we know, and taking time to appreciate the natural history there. We have been running wildlife holidays for a quarter of a century and are extremely proud of our client loyalty with, on average, about half the clients on any trip coming back to us and with many of our new clients coming by personal recommendation. Several clients have returned for over twenty holidays with us and a few have notched up over fourty trips!

We never forget that it is your holiday and work hard to ensure all the components of a tour - the accommodation, transport, food, the design and pace of the itenary, and the all-important leadership - combine to give you a superb all-round experience and, we hope, some wonderful memories!

Mike and Liz Read both use Opticron binoculars and telescope.  The quality is superb and the prices are very competative compared to other leading brands.  The best things about the Opticron range are that they are relatively light in weight (important for travelling abroad) and they are very close focussing.  This latter point is important when visiting locations where there are approachable birds and they can also be used for butterflies and dragonflies

ck_new_0161Looking for some of Jamaica's endemic birds while relaxing at a quality hotel?  Look no further than the Hotel Mockingbird Hill!  It is a romantic 10-room, eco-friendly hideaway nestled in 6½ acres of  lush organic tropical gardens and trees on a hillside outside Port Antonio.   We have stayed there and seen no less than 6 of Jamaica's 28 endemic bird species in their grounds.  Birds can be watched from the poolside, the bar (see Black-billed Streamertails in the Orchid tree) or during a walk around their grounds.  Excellent!  The owners can also advise you where to find some of the island's other special birds.
