THE FRENCH PYRENEES - MIGRANTS AND RESIDENTS
CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS SITUATION
Saturday August 29th - Friday 4th September 2020 (6 nights - 7 days)
During our late summer, it is already autumn migration for many bird species. This tour takes us to the impressive mountains of the Pyrenees. We fly to Toulouse and have a drive of approximately 2 1/2 hours to reach our hotel so with our early flight time, we will have plenty of opportunities to wildlife watch on the way. With the full 6 nights in one hotel in the majestic Pyrenees, we will be able to explore to some of the areas finest locations including the Cirque de Gavarnie. When the mountains are topped with clouds, they form a barrier to raptors and other species which will be migrating at this time. Once the cloud clears it is possible to witness hundreds of birds streaming southwards. In some of the high ground locations small migrants such as Eurasian Wryneck, Black Redstart and numerous Warblers can stop off to feed as they did during our 2019 tour. Add in resident species such as Golden Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Lammergeier, Alpine Chough and Black Woodpecker as well as Isards (the Pyrenean equivalent of Chamois), Alpine Marmots and a few late flowers and you know this is an exciting place for a wildlife watching tour. And don't worry, the vehicle takes the strain of getting us up to most of the high ground!
